Happiest of Sundays to you again !
I'm hoping most things are well on your side.
Just before the video, I have two special text features for you!
- A response post about how to get a copy of a marriage certificate in Jamaica (for persons living overseas), and
- Tania Lou's 'One Pot' book release!
I've actually gotten (and responded to) several questions about getting getting vital records from Jamaica but this one, this response is probably one of the most comprehensive.
If not you, chances are there is someone you know who might need the information.
And Tania's book?
First Tania is one of us, an ardent subscriber, and for a long while! Yes even entered my contests back in the days!
So first I say, Congrats my friend!!!!!
And now our..
Female Jamaican returning resident, Beverly Hamilton, is having the time of her life in Jamaica! In this video she shares her rare secrets, routine and projects in Jamaica, but also her future goals and ambitions.
She showed us her newest venture, the okra farm, and took us to the future site of her Fruits, Vegetable and Agriculture store. But that's not all, we toured her farm too!
We found other food items growing eg. squash, pumpkin, cantaloupe, papaya, sweet cassava, kale, turnip greens, butter beans and tomatoes, but also a wealth of fruits and medicinal herbs, including Jamaican lychee, pear, soursop, fever grass, passion fruit, mountain sop, pineapples, bees hive, baseda, gourd and neem!
A green lizard also showed up and said hello!
Please be sure to share a comment. And if you like it, please share it with someone, the more the merrier.
Featured Jamaican Product
I had two rare experiences this week that prompted me to share this Jamaican product with you.
One was at the market, and the other was while interviewing Ms Hamilton (video above) as well.
I noticed in both cases, Jamaican cassava!
Now cassava is the core ingredient in Jamaican bammy!
But to be honest, I mainly see bammies at 'border' where fish and bammy is sold (see video here) but two (2) sightings in short order, and I figured I needed to share, or remind you, of this Jamaican delicacy!
Yes, an inheritance from the earliest settlers in Jamaica, the tainos, it is a must have for locals visiting the south coast but also returning residents and those in the diaspora, best enjoyed with Fried Fish :-)
Learn and enjoy!
Remember Mr. Mendez, the old man that showed us how to make authentic Jamaican curry in this video?
He is currently working on building a little 'prep area' if you will, just outside his house for his products, so I gave him a small contribution towards it a while ago.
Well, 'out of the blues' as we say here, he called me this week to say he didn't remember telling me thanks (of course he did), and he just want to say thanks again.
That gift to him by the way, was about a month ago!
That sealed my belief that this man is truly special, he truly exemplifies his faith.
So today I big him up!
Did you know...
... that Ginger Ale was first made in Jamaica?
Ginger Ale is an excellent remedy for indigestion and nausea, including motion sickness, and morning sickness.
It prevents stomach flu and the nausea associated with chemotherapy.
This too, is yet another interesting fact from my 101 Intriguing Facts About Jamaica book.
Last week I sent the invitation, and I'm doing so again this week to hear from others...
The Covid19 pandemic has been here over a year now?
I am curious..
How have you been coping?
What are some of your coping skills?
re you doing anything different - new job, new skill?
Want to hear from you.
And that's it for today my friend, remember, please continue to stay #SafeAndSane.
