Happy Sunday again !!
Despite the busyness at this time of the year, I hope you had a reflective yet productive week - and is looking forward to this new week, yes the Christmas week!
I remember sharing the Christmas cake recipe with you last week, but have you baked your cake already?
Remember Kayann recommends that you bake it, ideally a week before you are ready to serve it.
So if you'll be having fruit cake (Christmas cake) as dessert on Christmas, be sure to jump on it now :-)
Now on another note, but still on Christmas, what if someone ask you ...
- What is Jonkonnu in Jamaica?
- When did Christmas start in Jamaica?
- What is served at a traditional Christmas dinner?
- Are there any animals associated with the Christmas holiday in Jamaica?
- What are some Christmas traditions in Jamaica? and even...
- How do they say Merry Christmas in Jamaica?
Would you be able to answer?
Earlier this week, I had the fun and exciting opportunity to accompany my friend, Ms (Maxine) James and her family to do sea moss (Irish Moss) harvesting.
Oh yeah!
It has been long overdue and I couldn't wait!
And we did it neither swimming nor diving! How is that?
Well, they used an interesting technique using the feet to feel it!
I managed to surprise myself and 'picked' a few lofty, juicy batches though!
Yes with my feet :-)
And we had a couple unwelcomed visitors, a giant jelly fish and a sea crab! But then again we were in their territory :-)

Oh yes, I'm keeping it on theme and today I'm highlighting the power packed energy builder, anti inflammatory, antiviral and anti aging secret weapon, Jamaican Sea Moss!
And truth be told, it is not only found in Jamaica, but many, here and overseas, who understand this stuff, swear that authentic Jamaican sea moss is the best.
I speak to some of that in the video above, but I also created a complete article highlighting some of the amazing health benefits of Jamaican Irish Moss!
This weeks special recognition goes to someone I'll call Sharon!
She knows herself, but you'll understand why I call her Sharon later :-)
She reached out to me in a most unusual way, wanting me to prepare a gift basket from Jamaica and send it to her pastor overseas!
Quite unusual right?
Yeah, but I was up to it!
I think that was a great and thoughtful gesture hence I'm publicly recognizing her thoughtfulness and for reaching out to me.
I didn't not put her name as it is still a surprise for her pastor :-)
Did you know...
... that the city of Kingston started out as a place of refuge for survivors of the great Port Royal earthquake in 1692 which sank two thirds of Port Royal and killed over 2000 people?
This too, is yet another interesting fact from my 101 Intriguing Facts About Jamaica book.
Did you know that while you and I might be able to afford a dinner this Christmas, there are many who are trying to figure out where the next meal will come from?
In fact the WHO reports that more than 3 billion persons cannot afford a healthy diet, while the FoodAidFoundation theorizes that 1 in 9 persons go to bed each night on an empty stomach!
Sigh....
I know many among us don't really celebrate Christmas, but I'm challenging you, as I challenge myself, to give to someone in need. At the least it comes right back to you.
That truly is the joy of this season!
Merry Christmas my friend!
