Hey ,
Happy Funday (Sunday) to you :-), and before I forget, seasons greetings to you and yours my friend!
First, thanks to all those who sent all those wonderful birthday messages to my baby daughter here, we do appreciate it!
And yes, read every single one.
But did you realize that next week Thursday is Christmas! Wow!
And despite the fact that we now have a video on Jamaican Christmas cake and we've been talking about it for two weeks now, I am remaining true to my tradition here to share the actual Christmas Cake recipe with you!
And this year, I have three (slightly modified) versions.
Debra, an expatriate in Jamaica, while commending us on one of the recipes, asked me a question related to the baking container, and so I grabbed the opportunity to share with her the three (3) versions ( plus the video version).
And that's my feature for this week!
This week is essentially the Part 2 of the inspirational features on the fantastic work been done by Jamaica Relief Ministries, a charity/ missionary organization in Jamaica.
In this video, I captured the 'amazing' (as the recipient calls it) handover of a house to a needy family in (near) Lucea in Hanover!
If you missed Part 1 where I spoke with Kevin and Carl to learn about the mission and achievements of the organization, you can see it here.
But here now is Tavia, receiving her Christmas gift - a brand new home!
Featured Jamaican Product
Last Thursday, I visited my family in the country and, as usual, my aunt had a little box of 'summen' for me.
She always does, it doesn't matter how impromptu the visit.
And one of the items in it was a fresh and juicy piece of Yam, the type we call St. Vincent! The 'gummiest' of the lot! Definitely one of my favorite!
We had it yesterday for breakfast and it didn't disappoint at all!
But then it dawned on me, why haven't I featured Jamaican Yams?
After all, it is said in some quarters to be the secret ingredient behind Usain Bolt's amazing athletic feats.
But outside of that, they are delicious - ask anyone in the diaspora and they'll tell you they can't get enough of a good piece of real Jamaican Yam!
And so, that's my highlight this week!
.
This weeks special recognition goes to to Natalie and Rohan (you'll likely hear more about them later) an inspirational couple who recommended a quite life-changing book, "The Go-Giver" to us.
Just really great folks with a good heart.
Thanks again guys!
By the way, if not yet done, you should probably check it out; its a great book on personal development.
Did you know...
... that Jamaica has some of the best natural mineral Spas in the world?
Some of which have high therapeutic value.
The warm saline and radioactive Milk River and the hot sulphurous at Bath in St. Thomas are typical examples.
The radioactivity of the The Milk River Spa, for example, is:
- 9 times as active as Bath in England
- 50 times as active as Vichy in France
- 5 times as active as Karlsbad in Australia &
- 54 times as active as Baden in Switzerland
The Jamaica National Heritage Trust describes our four main mineral Spas here:http://www.jnht.com/mineral_spas.php
This too, is yet another interesting fact from my 101 Intriguing Facts About Jamaica book.
The response to the Christmas Cake video on YouTube has been nothing short of astounding. And that has already triggered demand for another exciting Jamaican delight.
For now, I'll keep you in suspense (in a healthy way) but look forward to another something special later.
Until then, please remember to #StaySafeAndSane!
