Wow, where did the week go?
Happy Sunday again ! The first one in this fun month of December!
And I say fun, not only because of the Christmas vibe, but the fact that I also have two beautiful children born in this month, Karena and Nylah.
By the way, we celebrated Nylah's birthday on Saturday (Dec 4). She turned a FULL Year! She's now one year old!
But this week's feature is none other than my review of a visit to the Jamaica Relief Ministries Children's Home.
Among other things, I learned about...
- The family atmosphere they nature
- The number of children they accommodate
- Their staff complement; 90% of which are volunteers who stay sometimes for up to two years.
- Their most significant accomplishments to date
- Their current projects and projections for the rest of the year
You really should hear their story!
I believe you'll like it.
You bet, a visit like that (above) would be incomplete without a video for you :-)
So yes I have it, capturing the full interview with Kevin and Carl as they talk about some of their most significant accomplishments, what they are doing now, and their objectives for next year.
And by the way, look forward to the sweeping views of Montego Bay from up there in the hills!
Absolutely adorable! Here is it (below), enjoy!
Featured Jamaican Product
Last week we spoke about Jamaica's famous fruit cake, right?
Well this week it's the Jamaican sorrel, a delicacy during this Christmas season!
And it's not just taste great, our sorrel is being sold a lot more because of the newly discovered health benefits to be derived from its consumption.
Yes, scientists have discovered that Jamaican sorrel contains a lot of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and flavonoids. These compounds give Jamaican sorrel its deep red color.
Jamaican sorrel is also good for the lowering of elevated blood sugar, bad cholesterol and is good for the detoxifying of the body.
In addition, Jamaican sorrel has a high Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity (ORAC), which helps in raising the antioxidant power of blood.
It is said that the ORAC levels of Jamaican sorrel is higher than that of vegetable juice, tomato juice and orange juice!
It can be compared to the levels of cranberry and pomegranate juice, which are known for their high antioxidant properties.
You can therefore reduce the risk of developing deadly diseases like cancer and diabetes by drinking sorrel; because sorrel helps to build and strengthen the immune system.
The powerful antioxidants present in sorrel helps to eliminate free radicals from the body.
You didn't know that, did you? :-) Now you know.
Be sure to read more about the Jamaican sorrel here. And while there, be sure to grab the free recipe I placed there.
Today's special recognition goes to none other than...

This gentleman couldn't wait for me to drop the link for the authentic Jamaican Christmas cake for him grab the first one!
So yes, he officially became my first customer :-)

Did you know...
... that Jamaica's national bird, a species of hummingbird, the "Doctor Bird", is only found in Jamaica?
There are two types, the black billed, found in the east, and the red-billed, found throughout the rest of the island.
This too, is yet another interesting fact from my 101 Intriguing Facts About Jamaica book.
Quite a mouthful this week right?
