Goooood Morning and Happy Sunday to you and yours again !
Yes, tomorrow is our National Heroes Day so this entire weekend we celebrate and commemorate our heroes and heritage.
Last week I shared with you this video on some old time Jamaican items, courtesy of Sonia, and today I'll share highlights of my recent tour of a great house, the Abingdon great house, as we reflect on our heritage.
And just as you might have guessed, is the Abingdon Great House Tour!
The highlight for me is definitely the structure and workings of the old Windmill - now a habitat for the while owl, aka Patoo!
Here's the video!
Featured Jamaican Product
Earlier this week, I read in the papers that the world-famous Negril beach enjoyed an influx sand, tons of sand, following the recent passage of Hurricane Delta.
The hurricane recently passed about 165 miles south-west of the island causing up to 30 feet of storm surge in the West End area of Negril.
According to president of the Negril Chamber of Commerce (NCC), Richard Wallace, "Negril Beach is Healthy"!
And Negril Beach as you know, has been a major attraction for tourists to Jamaica
And so. that just reminded me that I needed to highlight this, another signature Jamaican product - The Negril Beach.
This week's special recognition goes out to Andrew, the CEO of the historic Abingdon property (I mentioned above) and the Half Moon Jamaica beach property.
We planned the old estate tour for days, but intermittent rain on the day placed a huge doubt on it.
But Andrew was resolute; He kept expecting, checking and forecasting.
Eventually we made it happen, albeit with a drizzle, just before dust!
Thanks boss, really appreciative!
Did you know...
... that our National Heroes Day, was established on October 20, 1969?
It replaced the national holiday for the queen of England's birthday which was discontinued. Heroes Day is now celebrated on the third Monday in October of each year here.
This too, is yet another interesting fact from my 101 Intriguing Facts About Jamaica book.
Here's a challenge for you, pulled from our educational archives :-)
