Happy Sunday again to you and yours !
I hope your past week was well spent and you are already looking forward to this new week.
Well, I continue to trod the journey (as much as Covid19 allows) showcasing what I call #TheRealJamaica, and today I feature another of our treasured traditions 'Sky Juice', oh yes :-)
I met up with Everton, one of the now scarce sky juice vendors in the island and had a little chat with him'; learning about, among other things, how he got started and what kept him doing this - even after 40+ years!
Very interesting; here's the link:
Well well, I'm sure you expected this :-)
Of course, it's the video of the original Sky Juice vendor!
The link is below.
Featured Jamaican Product
We can debate it as much as we can, but Jamaican Patois is without a doubt another signature Jamaican product; we don't have to venture very far to see that, persons from across the globe wants to learn it!
And so, while I celebrate this aspect of our heritage, I also take the opportunity to salute the legendary Ms Louise Bennett-Coverly, who would have celebrated her 101 birthday on September 7th.
Few, if any, was as proud and passionate about our patios as she did. May her sweet soul rest in peace.
Today I actually have two special recognitions:
- To Monique and Kadia of Digital Jamaica (@digital.jamaica) for having me on their weekly live show last Thursday, It was really fun sharing my online journey and experience with their audience.
Thanks again ladies!
- In another response to the 'sugar' video above, Pauline Ebanks wrote...
"God bless you for taking this video to us ...my grandmother did the same thing when i was a child she put the cane juice in bamboo joint and cork it with dried banana leaf and leave it by
the fireside in the kitchen and it turn into the best tasting vinegar
...i love the wet sugar and the molasses also wow Mr. Brook s great job ...thank you promoter wish i could get some of the cane juice
!!"
...when sugar was short my grandmother boil the cane juice in a pot and add mint or lemon grass to it for tea ..love it
That was gratifying... and some good learning for me too!
Did you know...
...that one John Leyden, a Scotsman, brought the first car to Jamaica?
He brought it to the parish of St. Elizabeth.
How about you, would you like to be featured?
