My-Island-Jamaica Digest
Ezine: JANUARY 23, 2022
Happy Sunday to you and yours again !
Now I'm gonna admit that I am guilty of it, so I apologize
Now let me try and fix it 😊
What am I talking about?
It's the fact that we spend a lot of time focusing on Negril, Mobay, Kingston and to some extent, Ocho Rios, but many times forget about the other amazing places in Jamaica!
One such is beautiful Portland!
And for those asking where is that?
Well, Portland is a parish located on Jamaica's northeast coast. It is situated to the north of St Thomas and the east of St. Mary.
The parish is known for its natural beauty, stunning beaches, lush vegetation, multiple caves and rivers as well as the peak of the Blue Mountain range. You can read more about it here in this article on my website.
In fact, go ahead and read that article to get an idea (or reminder) of just how awesome this place is.
And now I top that off by sharing with you some of the absolute best places to stay in Portland, the top 12 accommodation! Thanks to Sheree!
Here is the list in our featured article today.
So if (or when) you decide to make Portland your destination, you'll be well set!
I've been there, and loved it!
Do remember that I have several other new and insightful content on the website via the blog though, so please stop by and check them out.
And now, the...
Today's is a fun, but inspirational story, of a deaf and mute Jamaican woman, Donna.
Yes, she's deaf and muted (deaf-mute) but it doesn't make her feel any less as, not only does she operates her own small business, selling shells, stones and other articles from the sea, she enjoys doing so!
And she is highly respected and adored by the entire community! She can also be the life of the party! Yes you WANNA meet DONNA!

Please be sure to LIKE and comment on this awesome video.
And if you found it insightful, please SHARE it with a friend or family member, the more the merrier!
Featured Jamaican Product
Its not so much a product but more of a celebration (or is it?).
Its the fact that Jamaica ranks very high among the countries making significant progress towards achieving gender parity, sitting 42nd out of 153 nations, and even better, 24th globally in terms of economic participation and opportunity, based on the Global Gender Gap Report of the World Economic Forum!
So call it what you will but today I salute our women for the significant advances, considering where we are coming from!
Last Monday I sent you (and several of my subscribers an invitation) to join my new Private Facebook Group (JamHearts).
I mentioned that it would only be 15 additional persons, as typically the persons in that group are, not only like-minded Jamaica-loving persons (local, visitors, potential visitors etc.) but are also a short list of persons who support me tangibly for my efforts on the website and in videos.
You typically see there names at the end of my videos (for example)
So yes, I wanted to 'treat' a few more and add them to this private group.
Well the result was overwhelming!
I think we got well over 350 requests!
So today while I am not able to accept everyone without them joining the membership, I want to thank everyone who requested, it means a lot and if you did, that includes you too
Thanks again!
Did you know...
... that Lucea, the capital of Hanover, Jamaica, was an old maritime town and famous sea-port where sailors spent brief periods before setting sail to other ports?
This too, is yet another interesting fact from my 101 Intriguing Facts About Jamaica book.
The Naval Dockyard at Port Royal is scheduled to receive at least 10 cruise-ship calls between this month (January) and March 2022 (a record).
So yes, its seems the authorities are finally planning to have guest and visitors to the island experience more of historic Port Royal (and by extension) the largely undiscovered eastern end of Jamaica.
So anyways, that's it for today, until next week, please #KeepSafeAndSane
Note: If you missed any of these juicy newsletter editions in the past, you can find them in our nicely arranged archives.
